I’m voting different because Austin wastes our tax dollars but demands more
Austin’s leadership continues asking taxpayers for more money while failing to oversee the funds they already have. The city’s $6 billion budget has rivaled that of small U.S. states, yet it continues to put its hand out during a period of time when local businesses are failing and families are leaving the city.
As one of many examples: Austin uses a network of nonprofit organizations to perform city services. Yet despite allocating $100M+ annually to homelessness and social services, a City Auditor report revealed that 76% of sampled contracts missed performance benchmarks yet still received 100% of their taxpayer funding.
Here’s another example: the city spent $1.1 million on a logo — then demanded a 20% tax hike from residents already stretched thin. Voters fought back by defeating Proposition Q last year, which would have been the largest tax increase in Austin’s history.
Austin city voters can demand better accountability by requiring an indepdendent audit on your ballot this fall! Vote for Proposition I (“aye”). By electing fiscally responsible Council candidates we can begin to turnaround the worsening financial picture of our once-great city.
