Voter rolls tied to increasing taxes
This resolution was passed unanimously during the April 2024 Travis GOP Executive Committee meeting:
WHEREAS, when propositions are brought to the voters to raise taxes, that money is outside the approved budget of the legislature,
WHEREAS, many times these elections are during very "Low Turnout" election cycles,
WHEREAS, many times under 20% of the voters have voted in these elections, and
WHEREAS, both Republican and Democrats use this mechanism to saddle the community with a tax burden because they count on an ill-informed or lazy voter turnout, and
WHEREAS Be assured both Democrats and Republicans will be more than willing to keep the voter rolls clean as the number of voters, citizens residing in the community, will be much smaller than the bloated numbers of false names and addresses we now have.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: for an increase in tax to be approved via citizen vote at the polls, over half of the citizens must vote in the election.
