Your May 4 Local Election Guide
While we just finished the 2024 Republican Primary (with the Runoff scheduled later in May) and all the mainstream media headlines are nothing but Trump and November, there's another very important election taking place right now.
Every May, Texans vote in Local Elections. Early voting in this critical election continues through April 30.
With three places on the Travis County Appraisal District Board of Directors on the ballot (for the first time thanks to new legislation) that means EVERY Travis County resident has something to vote on (see recommendations below). But to find out what else is on your ballot where you live, go to TravisCountyGOP.org/vote and under "WHAT'S ON YOUR BALLOT" click on "Generate your personal ballot."
The Travis County Republican Party recommends voting for:
CITY OF LEANDER: Andy Hogue for Mayor, Mike Herrera for Council Place 2, Monica Roussel-Methena for Place 4, and Pulla Reddy Yeduru for Place 6.
TRAVIS COUNTY APPRAISAL DISTRICT: Don Zimmerman for Place 1, Matt Mackowiak for Place 2, and Bill May for Place 3
NOTE: This is not an exhaustive list of all Republicans or conservatives running in local races -- Craig Cancienne and Christy Comfort for Lake Travis ISD as two examples -- but those whom the TCRP Executive Committee endorsed based on requests received in time for the most recent meeting.
To help get the word out, we recommend clicking on the names above and seeing what opportunities there are -- from door-knocking, to donating a few bucks to cover costs, to simply waving a sign at a polling site, every vote we can win makes a BIG difference with low turnout expected. Also, spread the word on social media! Go on Facebook or X and find our endorsement graphics, then share widely.
A final word as we head into Day 1 of early voting: Though we live in a notoriously blue county, these local races are where we not only build the "farm team" of future candidates for big races but are also elections we can win. See some recent local election victories here. With turnout expected to be under 6 or 7 percent in some locations, we can catch the Democrats and the bureaucratic establishment off-guard. Will you help us?
See you at the polls! Again, ALL Travis County voters can vote this time!
