RELEASE: Austin-area Republicans take critical stands on Waterfront subsidies, universal basic income, misleading PAC attacks
AUSTIN — With two elections coming up in May and some critical City Council decisions on the immediate horizon, Travis County Republicans are making their stances clear on several important issues and key races.
The Travis County Republican Party Executive Committee gathered at county headquarters on Tuesday evening to approve the following resolutions (see linked text for entirety of each resolution):
Clarifying the truth despite misleading attacks by an out-of-state PAC against Texas House District 19 candidate Ellen Troxclair (she and Justin Berry will appear on the May 24 Republican Primary Runoff ballot in the newly drawn Texas House District 19 — the resolution was not an endorsement of either runoff campaign).
Opposing Universal Basic Income (UBI) ahead of Thursday's Austin City Council agenda item to approve an administrator to oversee an Austin UBI pilot program.
Calling on the City of Austin to refrain from using tax revenue to subsidize the South Central Waterfront Development Project.
"Under President Biden's failing agenda and Austin's radical left direction, we've already paid and sacrificed enough," said Andy Hogue, Travis County Republican Party Communications Director. "It's truly mind-boggling to think that a majority of the City Council is eager to spend more on risky gambits such as Universal Basic Income. It's even more confusing why the city of Austin would want to spend money on a private business development on some of the most desirable real estate in the country in one of the fastest-growing urban areas.
"It's more important now than ever before that Republicans stand up to unrestrained spending and radical social experiments on the public's dime. We must stand united and not allow baseless attacks to distract us from raising up the next generation of Austin-area Republican candidates such as Ellen Troxclair and Justin Berry. The decisions made at Tuesday's Executive Committee meeting shows that we are on the right trajectory and are committed to electing more Republicans and fighting for common sense."
The Precinct Chairmen also made several endorsements concerning the May 7 Texas Constitutional Amendments and Local Election. Early voting begins Monday, April 25.
