UPDATE: investigate child trafficking allegations by Guatemala
UPDATE: Newly (re)elected President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order this week pausing all spending on foreign aid, in hopes of rooting out all activity that is “antithetical American values.” This includes spending on various nonprofits and NGOs accused of facilitating child trafficking. See below for our article and resolution from April 2024.
The Texas GOP platform is committed to strong borders and legal enforcement at all levels of government. This is especially true when tracking down the root causes of child trafficking through the Texas-Mexico border.
Due to the Biden Administration’s lax enforcement of existing border laws and the radical Left’s practice of empowering dark money-fueled NGOs to support open-border practices, we have seen an increase in children trafficked into Texas — making headlines after a Guatemalan official accused U.S.-based nonprofits of harboring kidnapped children.
The Travis County Republican Party Executive Committee requested Texas Atty. Gen. Ken Paxton look into this critically important matter. See the unanimously passed resolution below:
Resolution regarding investigation into NGOs and charities trafficking children into Texas
WHEREAS the Attorney General of Texas filed a lawsuit against Annunciation House and other NGOs in February of 2024;
WHEREAS a letter was sent this week to AG Paxton from the Public Ministry of Guatemala (@MPGuatemala_EN on X) accusing Texas of harboring taxpayer funded NGOs and charities that are kidnapping and trafficking children from Guatemala across the U.S. Southern Border via Mexico;
THEREOFRE BE IT RESOLVED that the Travis County Republican Party requests immediate action by Attorney General Ken Paxton to comprehensively investigate these allegations and audit the financial allocations associated with these activities. The investigation must include accountability, safeguarding of taxpayer funds under §52(a) and protect the integrity of our local governance against undue foreign influence, reinforcing the security and welfare of Texas residents. The investigation should extend into self-reporting verifications and possible campaign finance violations, including gifts received and/or personal gain of public interest funding by "decision makers" in the past 24 months that may or may not have been reported.
