Represent your values at the Texas Capitol

After a vigorous 2024 election season and a brief time of donor appreciation, the Travis GOP shifts gears to one of our more important functions as a party:

Making sure our voices are heard during the Texas Legislature!

Austin-area Republicans have a distinct advantage. Being in the "county seat of Texas,” we get a front row view of our state lawmaking process and are often the first to know about the legislation that will affect all Texans. While other county parties often have to carpool, charter buses, and book hotels just to go to the Capitol, you're right here in our capital city. You can even show up after work, or take a long lunch break, and make a tremendous difference at our state capitol on a day this session that works for you.

We have the enhanced ability to give our Republican legislative and executive officials a major boost by showing up for the things that matter under the Texas Capitol dome. We are well-positioned to make certain our Republican elected officials abide by our platform principles and priorities, as well as convince a few Democrats regarding important issues.

To further our commitment, and due to increased interest in getting involved, we’re now issuing our weekly Legislative Action Alert email to our entire email list! Look for it soon, and if you’re not already signed up do so here. We are providing a list of resources and other helpful information at https://traviscountygop.org/texas-capitol-activism.

Things happen fast during the Legislative session (sometimes it's called "organized chaos!"). For up-to-the-minute changes consult our Events calendar at TravisCountyGOP.org/events and make sure you sign up with our Legislative Committee ASAP — simply let Pct. 367 Chair Bonnie Seelig know you're interested at blseelig66@gmail.com, and tell her which of our legislative priorities (below) interest you the most. She will be sending out more-frequent updates on ways to get involved throughout the 89th Legislature.

Texas Legislative Priorities for the 89th Legislature

1. Border Enforcement

2. Secure Texas Elections

3. Stop Sexualizing Texas' Kids

4. No Democrat Chairs

5. Ban Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying

6. Secure the Electric Grid

7. Texas Is Not for Sale (No Foreign Property Ownership)

8. End Federal Overreach

You can get involved by:

1. Calling your state Rep or state Senator about bills

2. Attending committee meetings at the Capitol

3. Testifying at the Capitol for or against a bill, submitting written comments, or “dropping a card” at the signup kiosks

4. Contacting a House or Senate committee on Texas Legislature Online to voice your opinion for or against a bill.
